Would studying childhood GWAS (genome-wide association studies) be a better way to uncover genetic signals that influence obesity risk in adults?[scroll to bottom for answer]
Yes. It has been shown that loci associated with adult obesity also are important markers for childhood obesity. Additionally, studying childhood GWAS has led to the discovery of novel loci below the detection range in adult studies. This has led researchers to believe that obesity genes should be studied at the pediatric level.
